Artist's Comments

This is one of the by-products of being involved in a National Competition with NASA. In this rare opportunity, we got to see the shuttle Discovery first hand while it was being moved back to the assembly building at Cape Canaveral.

That's a rad shot, are they caterpillar tracks?! I thought it'd be on rails...

I've seen this on Discovery channel once. As far as I remember they use specially made paved roads, I think they even have to cross a highway at one point from the hanger to the launch pad.

Nice shot. For the first time ever I was excited about watching the launch but they had to cancel.

very good shot.. i like it.. it looks very abstract.. by the way.. this photo was made by you?

False friends are like a shadow. When its sunny they are with you, but when it starts to rain they dissapear without any trace.
:iconkittystalker:
Yes. A group of us got to see it up close in late May as part of the NASA Means Business Competition.

They use this coarse rock material that is a number of feet thick that it rolls over. The rocks are completely pulverized as it passes over them. They call the machine that carries the shuttle the Crawler. There are actual offices inside that thing. It is built by the same people who make warships. This actually sits below the shuttle as it launches and has to be retrofit after every launch.

Rad, I always assumed it'd be on rails...Imagine driving that think..."Think I'll take the highway..."
